Lisa Jane Grant Jewellery Design
About the Artist

Lisa Jane GrantMany things in my life depict movement. Born in Canada, I currently live in Maine following many moves and travel opportunities.

Solo travel to developing countries is an essential part of who I am. The constant change of venues, contrasts amongst cultures and the element of constant surprise are what inspire me. It is never boring and promotes personal growth. I have always chosen to return with a traditional or contemporary representation of a culture, often in the form of jewellery.

The simplicity of metal and more specifically the traditional Japanese technique of Mokumé Gané allude to my ideal of contrast and movement. My preference is to let the eye be drawn to the metal and utilize mostly unadorned constructs. My designs are of a contemporary feel, hand-crafted and custom made.

I am a member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths and the American Academy of Audiology.

Education:

Following the completion of my Master’s Degree in Audiology and my subsequent move to Maine, the opportunity arose to begin my metalsmithing education. Living in the Portland, Maine area has given me ample opportunity to study with some exceptional artists including but not exclusive to: Kate Wolfe, Jayne Redman, James Binnion, Pauline Warg, Michael David Sturlin, Betty Helen Longhi, Ann Hollerbach, Cynthia Eid and Phil Poirier. Andrew Nyce has been a particular mentor, sharing his knowledge of metallurgy and experience as a Mokumé-gané artist to help me gain understanding of the theoretical aspects necessary to succeed with this process.
